WEST PORT A traditional acoustic Irish-style band to play at Folk clubs, Festivals, Weddings, Ceilidhs, Social events, etc
01484 719 240 barrysmithmusic@blueyonder.co.uk West Port- ( Est 2004) are an up and coming multi- talented versatile band of 4/5 musicians from the Leeds-Huddersfield area.We play sets of lively Irish and Scottish tunes - some with sensitive arrangements - and also for our Folk club and concert appearances do songs from traditional & Original sources with an emphasis on popular established chorus songs.Alternatively we can do a full night of popular Irish pub songs if that is required. As Barry Smith and The Westport Tinkers we did our first folk club booking at the Topic , A bbey Road, Bradford- which was well received in 2004. Several featured folk club spots and charity concerts followed as we consolidated and got the act together for The Otley.-Folk Festival in 2004 and the band developed and played at festivals, folk clubs, private functions, etc. throughout 2005
IN 2006 WEST PORT played in concert at 5 festivals.

HERE ARE WEST PORT in CONCERT at The HARDRAW FESTIVAL 2006
2 0 *******THE GROVE, LEEDS 14 OCT 2004 An epic night where we played to a large enthusiastic audience. The gig earned us an excellent review on The Leeds Music SceneWebsite. Here John Hepworth wrote" The programme for the gig was as might be expected in terms of opening with a set oj jigs and interspersing tradsongs and tunes with some self-penned material. The presentation showed how these players combine in a sound that is absorbing to the point of being at times hypnotic as they quickly came to a good lively session feel that filled the room with tasty cross-rhythms. REVIEWS TOPIC OF CONVERSATION-(17 01 06) Paul Abraham on the Leeds Acoustic musicwebsite-www.keepmusiclive.blogspot.com posted a review of our Topic gig. " In a packed room and with an atmosphere of great anticipation it was announced that West port would play. This was a night to remember. When the ever versatile Barry Smith sang ' Couldn't have come at a better time" we couldn,t have put it better ourselves. This was an evening of pure class". ANOTHER REVIEW. John Waller from The Topic forwarded this email from a member of the audience who had come primarily to see the support act Scarlett Heights. "What a a nice surprise- I got a Pipe Major and some well thought out tune arrangements. If I was Barry, I,d be proud of putting that bunch together, they were excellent.
